720-722 Commerce StreetRenovationsDance Theatre of Lynchburg renovated the historic building at 722 Commerce Street in October 2000. The first and second floors of this three-story building are home to two spacious dance studios, an arts office, an administrative office, a reception area, a lobby, a student lounge, storage closets, four restrooms and dressing rooms. The renovations were funded by: The Easley Foundation, The Gwathmey Trust, The Morgan Foundation, Greater Lynchburg Community Trust, Retail Merchants Association, and a loan from the Bank of the James.In January 2001 Dance Theatre of Lynchburg purchased the adjoining building at 720 Commerce Street with donations from individuals in the Lynchburg community. The first and second floors of 720 Commerce Street have since been completely revitalized in a series of three renovations and are now home to Cafe 720, the Mezzanine Gallery, The Pilates Studio, The Helen McGehee Dance Collection Library, and Theatreworks. This series of renovations was funded by the City of Lynchburg (Community Development Block Grant and Urban Development Grant), the KVA Foundation, and the Easley Foundation. Awnings were added to both buildings in 2002 with funds from the KVA Foundation and the City of Lynchburgs Facade Improvement Program. |
