Paul Taylor Dance Company’s Taylor 2 to Perform in Lynchburg

Performance at Smith Hall Thursday, November 18, 2004, 8pm on the campus of Randolph-Macon Woman’s College

Performance co-presented by Dance Theatre of Lynchburg and Randolph-Macon Woman’s College

Dance Theatre of Lynchburg and Randolph-Macon Woman’s College are proud to present Taylor 2 on November 18, at 8pm. “The reigning master of modern dance” (Time Magazine), Paul Taylor considers himself a reporter more than a choreographer, who observes and records his impressions in dance. Taylor rivets us with astonishing inventiveness, poignancy and wit. As prolific as ever after 49 years, he recently completed his 119th work. Mr. Taylor’s Companies have performed his works in more than 450 cities in more than 60 countries.

A commanding performer as well as choreographer, Mr. Taylor has danced with the Martha Graham Dance Company and the New York City Ballet. He has captivated dancegoers with the masterful 3 Epitaphs (1956) and the landmark Aureole (1962), among many others.

After retiring as a performer, Mr. Taylor devoted himself to choreography, and classics poured forth: Esplanade, Cloven Kindgom, Airs, Arden Court, Lost, Found and Lost, Last Look, Roses, Musical Offering, Company B, Piazzolla caldera, and dozens more. Celebrated for uncommon musicality, Mr. Taylor has set dances to everything from Ragtime to tango and loon calls, and elevator music to J.S. Bach. Mr. Taylor’s works have been performed by major dance companies all over the world, including American Ballet Theatre, English National Ballet, Joffrey Ballet, New York City Ballet, Royal Danish Ballet, Paris Opera Ballet, among many others.

Members of the Taylor 2 Dance Company will be providing Master Classes at both dance Theatre of Lynchburg and at Randolph-Macon Woman’s College during their stay.

Dance Theatre of Lynchburg provides students (ages 3-adult) with access to professional level technical training and exposure to major dance literature through presentations by national dance troupes Ð like Taylor 2 Ð and master classes offered by master teachers and choreographers.

We believe that the arts should be accessible to all and are therefore building close connections with the greater Lynchburg community by providing education and exposure to dance through distinct cultural experiences.

This event marks Dance Theatre of Lynchburg’s fifth annual dance presentation and enhances the established relationship between Dance Theatre and Randolph-Macon Woman’s College and the Paul Taylor Dance Foundation.

Through classes, workshops, presentations and performances, Dance Theatre of Lynchburg creates enthusiasm for the arts and talent and discipline within students. Classes are now enrolling. Register today by calling 434-846-6272.
