Community Partnerships

Dance Theatre of Lynchburg enjoys various partnerships throughout the region. Through master classes, lecture-demonstrations, performances and presentations of dance, we are able to introduce many people in the greater Lynchburg community to the performing arts.

Master Classes. Dance Theatre of Lynchburg's qualified staff teaches master-classes in dance for groups of children and adults. Master-classes are available in ballet, modern, afro-Caribbean, jazz, tap, and drum circle. No previous experience necessary.

Lecture-Demonstrations. An informal educational experience in the arts where valuable cultural arts information is transferred through both performance and informal dialogue. The Ensemble performs introduced selections from the diverse repertory followed by a question and answer period. Lecture demonstrations are tailored to meet the needs of the specific audience.

Performances. In addition to main-stage performances, the Ensemble also performs for special events throughout the greater Lynchburg area. The repertory includes works of major dance literature by pioneers of American dance, new works by young emerging choreographers, selections by well-known choreographers in the field of contemporary dance, classic story ballets, culturally specific medleys, and innovative movement studies

Presentations. Committed to exposing the greater Lynchburg community to quality arts experiences, Dance Theatre of Lynchburg has presented nationally acclaimed dance companies such as Ailey II, Garth Fagan Dance, Philadanco, and Paul Taylor/Taylor 2 to the greater Lynchburg community.

Collaborations. Through program collaborations, Dance Theatre of Lynchburg is able to offer additional classes which relate to dance. Collaborations include body conditioning classes through Kim Buhler's The Pilates Studio program.
